Baltonsborough

Down the M5 to junction 23 then A39 to Glastonbury then onto the A361 to West Pennard a minor road to Baltonsborough is on the right. Following this road into Baltonsborough we parked in the centre of the village near Church Walk leading to the village church after a journey of a hour and a half.
This walk was approximately 4 miles and a pleasant, level walk on easy terrain.
Starting at Church Walk go through the churchyard passing the church on the left hand side and leaving through the stone archway with its kissing gate to the field at rear of the churchyard. Turning left in the field to reach the Mill Stream and then turn right to walk with the stream on our left hand side until reaching a quiet country road after passing another kissing gate.
Turning left onto the road in around a quarter of a mile we reached Wallyer’s Bridge crossing over the River Brue.
Just before the bridge we followed the public footpath keeping the River Brue on our right for almost a mile to reach the second of two weirs where the Brue meets the Mill Stream

We turned right through a kissing gate and went over the footbridge to cross over the River Brue. Then, after passing through a second kissing gate we walked along the raised bank of Dunstan’s Dyke with the River Brue on our left hand side all the way to Tootle Bridge.

After crossing the bridge we turned left and onto a quiet country road which leads back to Baltonsborough. In about half a mile we ignored two turnings off to the right. About 300 yards after the second right turn, we crossed a stile on the left to take a track indicated as a public footpath, which leads to Mill Stream. We went straight ahead across the meadow to reach a footbridge, which can clearly be seen just to the right of a large willow.

Crossing the Mill stream using the footbridge and dog friendly stiles we then turned right to follow the Mill Stream back to the church where the last bridge is crossed to reach the meadow behind the church.

This was an easy walk and dog friendly and due to the Coronavirus we took a picnic which we had on the stretch towards Tootle Bridge. The local pub in Baltonsborough does not serve meals so the nearest meal served is at the Lion at Pennard which can be found back at the A361 in West Pennard
