Leaving Bristol at 11.00am with SAT NAV set for Bird Rock Campsite LL36 9TN with first walk set at Ganllwyd LL40 2TFalso set en-route.
The route took us on the M4 to Newport, then up the A449 to Raglan and onto A40 to Abergavenny then A479 and A470 to Ganllwyd.
First walk Rhaeadr Ddu and Coed Ganllwyd was taken off National Trust site and starts from Dolmelynllyn car park, Ganllwyd, Gwynedd, LL40 2TF.
The walk is rated moderate and dog friendly, 2 miles and 1 hour 30 minute duration.
From the car park we crossed the main road to the corrugated iron village hall and followed the tarmac road alongside the river, then followed the waymarkes over the stone bridge heading for a wooden bridge. After crossing the wooden bridge we veered right and headed to the waterfalls Rhaeadr Ddu (Black falls in English), are two waterfalls that cascade over 60ft (18m).
After the falls we continued to follow waymarkers through the kissing gate and on down into the open oak woodland.
At the crossroads, we went straight through the wooden gate and followed the path through two more sets of gates back to the main road and car park.
The walk was nice and easy to follow and was a gentle opening walk for our weekend adventure.
