Crook Peak

Off down into Somerset for another walk and due to the wet conditions we decided on going high to avoid the muddy ground at lower level.
We headed south down the A38 and around 15 miles from Bristol I turned right where signposted to Cross. Having passed the New Inn, continue along this un classified road for one and a half miles until, just past Compton Bishop, the Crook Peak parking area is on the left-hand side.
I actually parked on the main road in a set back layby opposite Church Lane leading to Compton Bishop.
We walked up Church Lane until we reached the church and here we took the road to the right hand side of the Crook Peak Parish church. After 5 minutes we reached a gate with a ‘No vehicular access’ sign where Luna was able to go off lead as a path with a walk marker was found on the right hand side of the private road. This path was followed rising up with a steep climb to a marker showing walk indicator arrows pointing left and right.
The summit of Crook Peak was seen in a southern direction along the ridge line of the hill. It took a further 15 minutes to reach the summit where we even on a cloudy day could see Brent Knoll to the South the M5 and North Somerset to the North and Blagdon Lake to the East.

From the summit of Crook Peak we headed in an easterly direction following the well worn path heading towards the Webbington Road in the distance. Walking down the church and Church Lane could be seen on our left. The path then split, you could either follow on down towards the road and if you parked in the visitor car park as mentioned earlier this would be the route to follow. As we needed to aim back toward the village we turned left and eventually exited the wooded path onto Vicarage Lane. This led onto Butts Batch where we turned right and finally onto Church Lane to return to the main road and the camper. The walk was around 3 miles and took just under 2 hours including enjoying the views and taking photographs.
