Had a lovely walk at one of our favourite destinations today at Sand Point. The postal code to find is BS22 9UD on Beach Road, Kewstoke, Weston Super Mare. We parked at the National Trust Car Park that six months ago was free, but now is £1 for one hour and £3.50 for all day. An hour is not long enough and is rather annoying as 2-3 hours is what would be the ideal time required to walk around the Point and adjacent area.
In the car park is a map of the Point near the entrance and behind are steps leading up to the routes around the Point. At the top of these steps we walked toward the farthest point out to sea following the well worn path overlooking Sand Bay and took some photos. We then followed the path on the North side looking towards the South Wales coastline.
It was such a lovely day with excellent visibility so we could view Cardiff Bay and the Second Severn Crossing. We stopped for refreshments (flask of coffee) on a pebble beach where we found a small area of sand where Luna had a dip in the Bristol channel. This area of National Trust land we had entered is known as Middle Hope.
We followed the coastal path along the North Coast until we came to a wooden step built over a stone wall. The walk if we had carried on takes you into an ancient field system as noted on the map. We walked back over to the other side of the field and followed the hedge going back toward the start of our walk on the Point. A gate is positioned in the hedge which we went through and followed steps back down to the car park.
The walk has some steep climbs and care is needed to supervise children and dogs due to the steep drops. Sturdy footwear is also advised due to areas of uneven ground. The other information to be aware of is sheep can sometimes be grazing on the open areas and if they are dogs must be kept on a lead. Today Luna was able to be off lead the entire walk and so a lovely, sunny, breezy day was enjoyed by all of us!
Sand Bay runs along side Beach Road with another Car Park in approximately the centre called Sand Bay Bus Terminus Car Park BS22 9UH. At the other end of Sand Bay is Beach Road Car Park BS22 9UU.
If you just wanted to go the beach and walk the dog either of the other car parks would be ideal as they are right next to the beach.
